1. Nominal APY vs. Real Post-Inflation Yield
A common pitfall in yield farming and staking is prioritizing high nominal APY percentages without factoring in baseline network token inflation. For instance, if a network offers 14% nominal staking rewards but dilutes circulating supply by 10% annually, your real purchasing power expansion is only ~3.6%.
2. Liquid Staking Derivatives (LSTs) & Capital Efficiency
Liquid staking protocols (such as Lido stETH, Rocket Pool rETH, and JitoSOL) allow institutional participants to maintain yield generation while retaining liquidity for DeFi lending and liquidity provision. However, LSTs introduce smart contract and depeg risk that must be modeled into portfolio variance.
How Currency Conversion Works
Every conversion uses an exchange rate — the price of one currency in another. Rates float 24/5 with supply, demand, interest rates, and news. The converter above pulls live mid-market rates and refreshes them automatically.
Mid-market vs your actual rate
The rate you see here is the mid-market rate — the midpoint between buy and sell prices. Nobody actually trades at mid-market: banks and forex brokers add a spread (their profit margin). Expect your bank to be 1–3% worse; specialist transfer services are usually under 1%.
When conversion costs the most
- Airport kiosks and hotels: spreads of 5–10% — the worst deal available.
- Credit cards abroad: ~1–3% foreign transaction fee unless you hold a no-FX-fee card.
- Weekends: some services widen spreads when markets are closed.
For traders
If you trade FX rather than just convert, the rate is only half the story — position size and margin decide your risk. Run the numbers with our forex margin calculator and pip value calculator before any trade.
